ACC Hearing Aid Funding

ACC Hearing Aid Funding

To find out if an ACC hearing aid funding application is right for you, we recommend having a diagnostic hearing test with one of our expert audiologists. From there the funding application can be completed in three easy steps.

Step 1:
Your audiologist will use your hearing test results and work history to see if you can apply for ACC funding. Our team will help you do an easy questionnaire about your work history. If you are eligible to apply, your audiologist will lodge a claim with ACC on your behalf.

Step 2:

ACC will arrange an appointment with an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist who will decide how much of your hearing loss is work-related (this consultation can happen over the phone or in person). ACC will then notify you with their decision and the funding amount you can use for your hearing aids.

Step 3:
Call Bay Audiology to book an appointment with your audiologist to confirm which hearing aids you’d like to choose to suit your needs. Remember to bring your ACC approval letter with you to the appointment. You can choose fully funded hearing aids, or you can choose to pay the difference if you decide on a different solution.

What help is available from ACC?

If you are eligible, ACC will contribute towards the costs involved in purchasing, maintaining and repairing your hearing aids. They also cover the cost of your hearing aid batteries and deliver them to your home. ACC will provide funding for replacement hearing aids once every six years if you need new ones.

How do I apply?

To make an ACC claim for work-related hearing loss, contact your local Bay Audiology clinic and our team will help you get the process started. ACC will ask you for information about your work and medical history and may also contact your previous employer(s). You will also need to have your hearing tested by an MNZAS audiologist, and then have a consultation with an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist.

What will it cost me?

If your ACC claim is approved, Bay Audiology have fully funded hearing aid options, regardless of the level of funding you receive. If your level of ACC funding doesn’t fully cover the cost of your preferred hearing solution, you can choose to pay the difference yourself. Your audiologist will help you understand which solution is right for you.

How much funding is available to me?

The funding available to you from ACC depends on how much of you hearing loss is work-related, and how much is due to other factors, such as your age or hobbies. This is assessed by an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist. ACC use this information to work out how much funding they will contribute towards your hearing aid(s). ACC contributions range between $3000 to $5000 for a pair of hearing aids.

What if my ACC application is unsuccessful?

If your application for work-related hearing loss through ACC is unsuccessful, we can still help you find the best hearing solution for your lifestyle and budget.

Most New Zealanders are eligible for the Ministry of Health subsidy of $1022.22 towards a pair of hearing aids. This is available to all New Zealand citizens and permanent residents, aged 16 years and above, once every six years. You can also take advantage of our 12-month interest free offer with Q Card.
