The importance of getting a check up

When you purchase a hearing aid with Bay Audiology, you not only receive a high-quality hearing device, but you also get expert advice and ongoing aftercare to help you along your hearing journey

How do I check my hearing aids?

We want to make sure your hearing aids are working as efficiently and effectively as possible. This is why we provide ongoing support throughout your hearing journey. If you are experiencing any issues with your hearing aids, our hearing specialists are just a phone call away.

As part of our aftercare services, you can come to us for any maintenance and adjustments needed for your hearing aids. We offer free hearing aid clean and checks at all Bay Audiology clinics so that they stay working at their best. Simply pop in to your local clinic to get them checked.

Did my hearing get worse?

Hearing aids do not make your hearing worse. A lot of people get used to the sounds they hear when they are wearing hearing aids which makes them think that when they are not wearing them, their hearing significantly drops. This is just the brain reacting to the sudden decrease of sounds, but it does not necessarily mean your hearing has gotten worse because of hearing aid usage.

We have tests that ensure the hearing aids do not damage your remaining hearing. However, this is not to say that your hearing will not get worse over time, as ageing can still affect your hearing levels.

How often should my hearing aids be checked?

It is recommended to get your hearing aids cleaned and checked every 4-6 months. However, this may vary depending on your hearing device. It is also recommended to visit your audiologist for a review appointment once a year to retest your hearing levels and ensure your hearing aids are working as needed.

Bay Audiology's offers and services

Clean and checks

You can pop in to your local Bay Audiology clinic to get a quick clean and check of your hearing aids. Our team can check if your hearing aids have any ear wax blockage, or if any parts (i.e. domes, filters, or tubing) need to be replaced. Any new parts needed cost $10. They will then give your hearing aids a thorough clean to ensure they are working properly.

Maintenance and repairs

If you are noticing constant issues with your hearing aids, they may need to be repaired. Our team will be able to advise whether your hearing aids need to be sent back to the manufacturer for repair. Cost for repairs depends on the issue and what is needed for repair.

Hearing aid adjustments

In addition to clean and checks of your hearing aids, you may need follow-up adjustments to your hearing aid settings. If you are noticing volume fluctuations, high-pitched sounds or discomfort, it is best to book an appointment with your audiologist. They can adjust your hearing settings if necessary to ensure they are meeting your needs.
